Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction is a practice of contemplative listening and companionship that I have been offering for over 20 years. Christian Spiritual Directors Association describes a spiritual director as “a trained listener who will accompany you as you share about your spiritual journey, helping you to notice God’s presence and activity along the way, as well as your personal reactions and responses.”

Some of the people I meet with are looking to deepen their spiritual practices, while others are navigating a new or confusing season in their spiritual lives. I often meet with clergy who spend most of their time caring for others, and need someone to help them navigate their own relationships with God and religious practice. I also love meeting with those who are exploring if they are called to become clergy. At the same time, I also love meeting with those who are struggling with deep spiritual questions and confusing experiences. Some describe themselves as “deconstructing” the faith that they grew up with, but they sense a calling to “reconstruct” a more faithful and mature Christian faith. I am very open to meeting with those who are spiritual seekers, as well as those who describe themselves as Christians.

I am a graduate of the Institute for Spiritual Formation and began offering spiritual direction in 2004. I also studied Spirituality at the doctoral level at the Catholic University of America. I currently serves as Senior Faculty at the Selah school for spiritual direction, and I have been an advisor to the Christian Spiritual Directors Association since it began.

I offer direction in person and online, and I prefer to have an introductory meeting with potential directees (at no charge) before scheduling a first session.
